When you're in Colombo, it's obvious that you will visit Colombo 7, The prestige part of Colombo which gives residence to VIP's around the world. Colombo 7 also houses the famous local dining hotspot, Upalis by Nawaloka. This place is an elegant venue for all the visitors who's looking for a premium local meal. Located opposite to the Colombo's largest park - Viharamahadevi Park and it also brings you the breathtaking views of the iconic Nelum Pokuna (Lotus Pond) Theater and the most iconic building which reminds us of the White House, The Town Hall. With those surroundings, I can assure that you can have a fine dining experience at a highly affordable price.
When it comes to cuisine at Upalis, it's all about spicy and steamy flavors of Sri Lanka.
Upalis offers a variety of iconic mouthwatering Sri Lankan dishes such as, Elu Mas Mirisata(Sautéed fresh mutton cubes with onions, tomatoes, ginger, garlic, green chilli and tamarind juice), Thora Maalu Stew(Pieces of seer fish cooked with onions, garlic, ginger, curry leaves, green chilli, coconut milk, potatoes, capsicum, tomatoes and spices) and many more. This place offers both Vegetarian and Non-Vegetarian making it ideal for any person as a dine-in spot. And I seriously recommend that this is a great place to try your first Thambili(King coconut) experience if you haven't tried it before.
If you're somewhere near Colombo 7, I recommend that you visit this place when the ambiance is laid-back. The top floor opens up to the greenery that city has to offer and dozens of twinkling city lights. After you're done with all the meals, they also serve you a great variety of local and common desserts such as Kiri Pani, Wiskothu Pudima and a huge variety of ice creams. I should say if you're a fan of ice creams, you should really go for Belgian Chocolate! It's truly amazing there. And finally I recommend that you pre-book your tables prior to the visit to ensure that you have a table because this place gets really busy sometimes, especially if you want a table upstairs.
